White paper Outdoor Advertising with Impact: Why Textile is the New Standard
Outdoor advertising needs to make an immediate impression. A strong image, deep colors, and a fabric that looks great in any condition – that’s what really matters. Choosing the right material makes more of a difference than you might think. Textile is quickly becoming the new standard: lightweight, durable, flexible, and perfectly suited for modern outdoor frames. More brands, retailers, and sign makers are switching, not because they have to, but simply because it delivers better results.
On this page, you’ll discover why textile is becoming the standard, how printing technique determines longevity, and which material properties are essential to create real impact.
Why the market is moving quickly toward textile
Outdoor campaigns are running on increasingly short cycles. Promotions, events, and seasonal campaigns demand lightweight materials that are easy to transport and preferably support circularity. Textile delivers exactly that. It folds compactly, reduces transport costs and CO₂ emissions, and provides a modern, soft, and premium appearance.
At the same time, demand for PVC-free solutions is growing. Large events and cities are applying stricter sustainability criteria, and brands are following suit. Textile is a natural choice in this regard: PVC-free, recyclable, and easy to install.
A convincing combination of appearance and usability
Those who switch to textile quickly notice how practical the material is. Its low weight makes installation faster and safer, especially at height. A folded fabric occupies minimal space during transport and storage. Once tensioned in a frame, textile looks sleek, matte, and modern, without the gloss, stiffness, or “banner look” of PVC.
Polyester textiles are now stable enough to replace PVC banners in many cases. The result is more professional in appearance and more efficient logistically, which is often the deciding factor for many organizations.
Printing technique: key to longevity and color retention
While textile provides the base, the printing technique determines the final quality. Sublimation and UV printing are the two dominant techniques for outdoor applications, but their behavior outdoors differs.
Sublimation for flexible, temporary applications
Sublimation produces intense, deep colors as the ink penetrates the fibers. The fabrics remain soft and lightweight, ideal for short-term campaigns where appearance matters more than maximum UV resistance. Shrinkage and potential fading after several months of strong sunlight should be taken into account.

Coating yellowing: what stays white and what doesn’t?
In addition to ink behavior, the textile coating also plays an important role in long-term visual results. Many coatings can yellow over time. This does not affect the printed colors, only the back or coated side of the fabric.
In practice, textile surfaces generally stay whiter than coated sides. Fabrics such as Heavy Tent XL and Light Tent XL show noticeable yellowing on the coating side, even if sublimation is printed on the textile side. The back can still change color.
Products like Mercury, PVC-free Banner, Blackback Soft, and Blackback UV remain much whiter. Especially Blackback materials show almost no yellowing and remain visually stable, making them ideal for long-term applications where even unprinted areas are visible. These differences do not affect the ink itself but are important for the overall appearance of an outdoor installation.

Why textile is a future-proof choice
Outdoor textile offers a complete combination of flexibility, durability, and aesthetic appeal. It is PVC-free, lighter than traditional materials, and cheaper to transport. Its look is modern and rich, increasingly important for brands. With the right printing technique, outdoor textiles perform reliably and remain visible for the long term.
